Published: July 22, 2026 — BC Wide Home Services Ltd, doing business as BC Wide Heating & Air Conditioning — Greater Vancouver, BC
Signs of Line Set Damage
Oily residue around line set connections or along the length of the line, hissing sound from the line set (refrigerant leaking), ice on the line set at the connection point, dents or kinks in the copper tubing, or the line set insulation is damaged or missing, exposing bare copper.
Causes of Line Set Damage
Vibration from the outdoor unit rubbing against the line set, physical damage from landscaping or construction, rodent chewing (insulation, sometimes the copper), corrosion from environmental exposure (especially near the coast), or improper installation causes kinks that restrict flow.
Repair Cost
Line set repair costs $300-1,500 depending on the damage. A small section replacement with brazing: $300-600. Full line set replacement: $800-1,500 plus refrigerant recharge ($200-500). If the leak has caused the compressor to run low on oil, compressor damage may require additional repair.
